Excited to announce that the Tactile Wall, "Blind Power", 54' x 8' 8" for the Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind is finally complete! Design work for this installation began in September of 2013 and went through 3 revisions prior to its approval. The contract was settled in mid-December of 2013; materials were ordered in January 2014 and my residency at IFB to begin fabrication began in early March.

My Artist Team:

I was fortunate to have an outstanding intern through Salem College, Courtney DeBerry and she later served as a paid assistant. Courtney was then a senior and is now in grad school at New York University.

Another major assistant for this project was, Nancy David. Nancy had apprenticed with me years ago in stained glass, and I am pleased she was able to assist with this installation. It was great working with her again on a sustained and site specific project!

My daughter Katie Longinotti, and her fiancé, Jack Wooten assisted as well. Katie primarily with fabrication and cleaning the wall after installed, and Jack with installation. Jack's brother, Jesse, also assisted on several days through the installation of the right-side of the mural and the Pfefferkorn cloud.

My husband Bob, assists with every project, commission and installation I take on. He got us started with this installation, trained Jack, and came back in to help us to its completion.

Other major assistants that volunteered significant time with this project: Jane Webster, Calan Charlton and Barb Robless

The work through its fabrication was collaborative and many groups lent a hand along the way. It was a wonderful experience working with a special population in creating a project that I hope they will enjoy for many years to come!

If you are on Facebook, check out the photo album which depicts the project through phases, start to finish:
