Post Residency: Phillips Collection and NGA

Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit the Phillips Collection and saw two outstanding exhibitions, Pousette-Dart: Predominantly White Paintings and Robert Ryman: Variations & Improvisations.
Both were abstract expressionist but I was very inspired by the Pousette-Dart work, beautiful layered work with paint and graphite.
While at the Phillips I also took some time to sit and contemplate in the Rothko room.
At the National Gallery of Art I visited the old standards of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Cezanne, Gauguin, and VanGogh among many others.

Post Residency 1: In DC

After dropping off fellow student colleague, Dwight, at the Logan Airport yesterday, I made an 8 hour road trip to DC, for a visit with my niece who will be leaving in early August for Uganda in August, as a US gov environmental diplomat.
I am taking today to visit the Phillips Collection, one of my favorite museums, http://www.phillipscollection.org/exhibitions/index.aspx

Looking forward to viewing their two special exhibitions: Pousette-Dart: Predominantly White Paintings and Robert Ryman: Variations & Improvisations

Later I will head to the National Gallery of Art to meet my niece, and we will enjoy the Shakespeare Festival this evening together.

Community and Closure: Group I

One of the strengths of this MFA program is meeting so many student artist/ peer colleagues of varied ages, use of media and geographic location from home. We have become a community!

Still trying to figure out this Blog stuff. Feeling like a dinosaur! Trying to insert additional images. Hopefully, here are some more:

Group I Residency

The experience of the Group I residency is intense! My peer students, their art, Art of groups 2-4, the Critical Theory, the discussions, the numerous Crits, the walking, the numerous lectures and presentations, the museums and galleries, the graduates, their thesis work and exhibitions, the food, the research.... I am a sponge now quite full. I am chomping at the bit to return home and begin working on new ideas.

Here are photos of my Crit Space and work brought to the 1st Residency:
